Coming soon. Since I'm Gone isn't open yet. These pages show how it will work.
How it works

From the first line to the day it arrives.

Every message goes through the same five decisions. Here is each one, and what we do on your behalf after you seal it.

  1. Write it

Pick what kind of message it is: love, apology, forgiveness, regret, gratitude, a confession, advice, a goodbye, or just because. Then write it, or attach a video or voice recording. Drafts save as you go.

  2. Choose who

Pick one or more people. For each, add every way to reach them. Once a year we ask you to check their details, because addresses change over decades.

  3. Choose when

On a date, when you're gone, or after you're gone on a date. Dated messages can ask you to confirm before they send.

  4. Choose how

Email, text, printed letter or video page, with fallbacks. Decide whether they get a gentle notice first or the whole message at once.

Timing

Three ways to decide when.

Deliver
1 Dec
2026

On a date

Sends at the time you choose, in your time zone or theirs. Turn on “Ask me first” and we'll check with you a day, three days or a week before.

Deliver
on my
passing

When I'm gone

Sealed until your check-ins stop, your verifiers confirm, and the grace period ends.

After me
14 Jun
2034

After I'm gone, on a date

For a day that matters to them: a graduation, an 18th birthday, a wedding. If that date has already passed, you choose what happens.

Safeguards

Your safety plan.

You set it up once, and it covers every message marked for after you're gone. You can make it stricter for a single message, for example by asking both verifiers to confirm.

Check-ins

Pick how often (weekly to quarterly) and how we reach you: email, text, the app, a phone call. Any answer on any channel counts.

Verifiers

One or two people, usually a spouse, a sibling or a close friend. We only contact them if your check-ins stop. They can confirm you've died, or tell us you're fine.

Proof, if you want it

Ask for a death certificate before anything sends. It's slower, but it's the strongest check.

Obituary check

If you miss a check-in, we can also look for a published obituary. A match only means we ask your verifiers sooner. It never sends anything on its own.

Pause

Going into hospital or off the grid? Pause check-ins for up to 90 days.

Stop everything

Every reminder carries a link that stops all deliveries at once. Reply STOP ALL to any text and it does the same.

An example timeline

Monthly check-ins by email and text, a phone call, two verifiers, and a 14-day grace period.

Delivery

What happens on the day.

We release the key for each message and send it through every channel you chose, in order. The private link stays open for them for good. A printed letter is printed, sealed and posted within two working days.

If a channel fails (an email bounces, a number is out of service), we try the next. If every channel fails, we ask your verifiers to help reach them.

Privacy

Who can see what.

You
Everything you've written, at any time.
Recipients
Only the messages addressed to them, and only after delivery.
Verifiers
That you named them, and nothing about your messages.
Our staff
Who your recipients are and how to reach them, so we can deliver. Never what you wrote.
The public
Nothing, unless you choose to share a message in the public archive. Then only after it's delivered, without names, and only if no one it's addressed to objects.
